Bare Metal Automation

Looking to see what Metal can do for you? Here's where we shine.

Hardware

Single tenant

Spread out and relax with 100% isolated bare metal that can be fully utilized by your workload without any virtualization overhead or noisy neighbors.

Modern hardware

Our Standard Gen3 lineup features the latest Intel, AMD, and Ampere configs that are curated for common workloads, pre-deployed globally, and ready to consume on-demand in minutes.

Workload optimized configs

Enjoy the benefits of full automation, but with hardware that is optimized for high-memory, storage-heavy, or GPU use cases. Available globally with a 12-month commitment.

Mellanox and Intel NICs

Our configs feature the latest NICs from Mellanox and Intel (in 2 x 10Gbps, 2 x 25Gbps or 4 x 25Gbps options) providing massive throughput as well as direct access to advanced features like DPDK & VPP.

SGX and SEV capable

Leverage Intel’s Software Guard Extensions (SGX) or AMD's Secure Encrypted Virtualization (SEV) to provide hardware-level security for sensitive workloads.

Provisioning

RESTful API

Interact programmatically with all aspects of our platform using conventional HTTP requests. Whatever you can do via our portal, you can also do via our API!

60–second deploys

A single server? A full Kubernetes cluster? No sweat! We've reduced most installs to under 60 seconds, so you can tap into bare metal at software speed.

Metadata & Cloud-init support

Our metadata service allows you to provide user data during provisioning time to customize your server during the boot process.

Operating systems

We support a wide range of common Linux operating systems like Ubuntu and Debian, as well as licensed options like Windows Server.

Serial over SSH (SOS)

Get into trouble and need to access your machine? Leverage our out of band access method – you’ll just need a root password and valid SSH key.

Deploy without Public IP

Don’t want to expose each of your servers to the public internet? Deploy any server without public IP addresses.

Integrations

Native API libraries

Consume our API with client libraries in popular languages like Golang, Ruby, Python, Java and PHP.

DevOps integrations

From Terraform to Crossplane, we're the most integrated bare metal platform on the market. Let us know!

Storage & HCI

NVMe and SSD storage

All of our server configurations include a variety of local storage, mainly enterprise-grade SSD's or high performing NVMe flash drives.

Pure Storage on Equinix Metal

Pure Storage on Equinix Metal empowers organizations to run their operations as a true, automated, storage-as-a-service model.

Dell Powerstore on Equinix Metal

Enterprise-grade, dedicated all-flash storage appliances that are delivered 100% “as a service”, extending Equinix Metal’s cloud-like experience for quicker time to market.

Dell VxRail on Equinix Metal

Offers a simple, hyperconverged solution for a wide variety of applications and workloads. Delivered to you as a single-tenant appliance with dedicated network connections with built-in support for VMware licenses.

Nutanix Cloud Platform on Equinix Metal

This validated solution combines the benefits of Nutanix NCI with the global infrastructure footprint and 24/7 support experience of Equinix Metal. Run any Nutanix product and service on Equinix Metal, just like on-premises.

Core Networking

Unmatched performance

Equinix Metal is deployed within Equinix IBX’s, the most connected data centers in the world. Our network features diverse transit paths and aggressive peering.

Big redundant pipes

Our servers come with 2 × 10 Gbps or 2 × 25 Gbps network ports, enabling high performance and high availability for network focused workloads.

Native dual stack (IPv4/IPv6)

We support both IPv4 and IPv6. Just remember: they aren't making more v4 address space, so at some point IPv6 is going to rule! 😉

Layer 2 VLANs

Building on top of our Layer 3 topology, we offer a powerful and flexible VLAN feature that allows you to build private networks easily.

Elastic addressing

Need some magic, floating IPs? Request them on a per-facility basis and assign them programmatically to your infrastructure. No more waiting for DNS! Standard Elastic IP’s cost $0.005 / hour, or about $3.60 per month.

Backend networking

Each Equinix Metal project includes backend (non-routable) IP address space for direct server to server communication over an easy to use private network. Backend traffic within a metro is free.

Global backend transfer

Extend your private backend transfer setup across our global facilities. Customers can use the same secure 'backend transfer' approach to communicate across locations. Backend transfer traffic between metros is charged at $0.03 / GB

Local & Global BGP

Leverage BGP locally within each metro (or globally across our backbone) for high availability and an improved end-user experience. Bring your own IP space with a /24 or larger.

Equinix Fabric, by the hour

Consume local Equinix Fabric virtual connections on an hourly, flat-rate basis with our “Metal Billed” Fabric VC feature. Pricing starts at just $0.15 / hr for a 50 MB connection and tops out at $1.00 / hr for 10 Gbps!

Advanced Networking

BYO IP Space (Custom AS)

We support 'Bring Your Own' IP space (/24 or larger block), so you can leverage your own AS instead of Equinix Metal IPs. Need help acquiring IP space? We can suggest reputable IP brokers if you are in the market.

Global Anycast IPs

The magic of an elastic IPv4 address, but flexible across our global data centers. Useful for Anycast scenarios when you don't have your own AS to announce. Global Anycast IP’s cost $0.15 / hour, or about $108 per month. Please note that inbound traffic for Global Anycast IP’s is billed at $0.03 / GB.

Hybrid Bonded mode

In addition to the default LACP bonded mode, you can select a highly available “bonded” setup that supports both Layer 2 and Layer 3 modes at the same time.

Metal Gateway

Want to simplify network connectivity for subnet traffic on Metal? Our Metal Gateway feature automatically provisions a Metro-wide gateway from a new or unused Public or Private IPv4 subnet (/25 to /29) block.

Equinix Fabric

In addition to our hourly “Metal Billed” Fabric VC option for local connections, you can leverage remote connections with a “Fabric Billed” option and take advantage of dedicated ports.

Dedicated Tunnel mode

With our “Dedicated Tunnel” networking mode, you can create a transparent QinQ (aka 802.1q Layer 2 tunnel) connection between a dedicated Fabric port and a Metal instance.

And wait, there’s more!

Clear hourly pricing

While we love monthly and annual commitments (seriously, call us!), all of our servers and add-on products are billed based on hourly usage.

Reserved instances

Get the exact same physical hardware each time, and receive discounts from 5%-40% in exchange for your commitment.

Bulk egress bandwidth

By default, egress traffic to the public internet is billed on a usage basis at $0.05 / GB. If you plan on sending TB’s of data, please contact us for bulk pricing (available with a commitment).

Tinkerbell OSS

Tinkerbell is a bare metal provisioning originally developed at Equinix Metal. We open sourced it in 2020 to help expand and mature the ecosystem around bare metal automation. It is currently a sandbox project with the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF).
